Heriot’s Rugby Club have appointed former Scotland flanker, John Hardie as Defence and Collision Coach for their FOSROC Super6 team, Heriot’s Rugby.
John will work alongside Head Coach Ben Cairns, Backs Coach Stuart Edwards and Forwards Coach Finlay Gilles, assisted by Strength and Conditioning Coach Mark Sinclair, and the medical team led by Sandi Lyall.
On his appointment, John Hardie said: “I’m stoked to have been given the opportunity to join the coaching team at Heriot’s Rugby Club. They are a great club with a successful history and I can’t wait to get stuck in with the team.”
Ben Cairns added: “One of the attractions for me taking up the Head Coach role at Heriot’s was the fact we already had two quality rugby coaches in Fin (Finlay Gilles) and Edo (Stuart Edwards) in situ as well as the expertise of Mark Sinclair (S&C) and Sandi Lyall (Medical) to call upon. However, I still felt we needed a 4th rugby coach to really drive the standards of our defence and collisions. Hards (John Hardie) was always top of that list so we are delighted to have secured his services and are thankful to Stewart’s Melville RFC who have supported John’s transition across. We believe this is one of the strongest coaching groups in the competition and we are really looking forward to seeing that have a big impact on the development of our player group”

Supporting the Heriot’s Rugby development pathway is Head of Rugby Development Sean Lineen, Blues Head Coach Phil Smith and Blues 2nd XV Head Coach Robert McKillop.
The Heriot’s Rugby squad have been hard at work from their base at Goldenacre, as well as utilising the excellent facilities at both Edinburgh College and the Trinity Academy Sports Campus, under the watchful eyes of the coaching team ahead of the Sprint Series kicking off in April 2023.
The Heriot’s Rugby full playing squad will be announced in the weeks leading up to the first game of the FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series, which is now in its fourth year. Heriot’s Rugby will find out who they will face in the coming weeks. Check out our website for more details.
