Golden Acre Foods, the main sponsor for Heriot’s Blues Women is proud to be supporting the newest Edinburgh-based women’s team in Scotland for a second season.
Founded in Glasgow about 20 years ago, the company is a distributor of food and drink products to shops, schools and caterers across the United Kingdom.
Golden Acre Foods Head of Marketing Rebecca Cutter admits it is disappointing that the Heriot’s Blues Women will not have the chance this season to defend their National League Division 1 championship the team won a year ago.
‘‘Heriot’s are based at the Goldenacre playing fields, so it seemed an obvious fit, but it’s beyond just a happy coincidence of names,’’ she said.
‘‘At Golden Acre Foods we are passionate about supporting community projects and we are proud to be sponsors of the Heriot’s Blues Women for a second year. The team are fantastic ambassadors for sport, inspiring women and girls to get involved.’’
This season Golden Acre Foods chose the protein shake brand Urban Active to feature on the new Samurai playing kit for Heriot’s Blues Women.
‘‘Each bottle contains 20g of protein, no added sugar and is low fat. Whether you’re a trophy winning rugby player or simply enjoy walking the dog on a Sunday, it’s an ideal choice for busy people on the go!’’ Rebecca said.
The Urban Active protein shake was one of the products included in a £400 donation by Golden Acre Foods to Murrayside Care Home staff and residents during the initial lock down period.
Heriot’s Blues Women player, Jacqueline Kerr, works at the care facility in Murrayfield as a Nurse Unit Manager where the donation was accepted.
Like many, the small team of 40 staff that work at Golden Acre Foods have been working through the challenges of Covid-19.
‘‘We are very proud to be part of the grocery industry, helping keep food on the supermarket shelves during these exceptional times,’’ Rebecca said.
‘‘Some of our brands and products have been in high demand, others have been more impacted by the lockdown. The welfare of our staff and customers remains a priority and we are very grateful to all key workers for their work to help keep us well.’’
On behalf of the team at Golden Acre Foods, Rebecca wished the Heriot’s Blues Women and wider Goldenacre community the best for the holiday season.
‘‘We’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and here’s to a brighter 2021 (with hopefully another trophy). Come on the Heriot’s Blues Women!’’ she said.
