Stewart’s Melville RFC great Dougie Morgan passes away

Heriot’s Rugby Club is saddened to learn of the passing of Dougie Morgan of Stewart’s Melville RFC.

He was always a fierce competitor on the pitch and a great friend off it.

Andy Irvine has reflected on the time Heriot’s were flying high in the league only to be brought back to earth when Dougie kicked the winning goal at Goldenacre.

As captain of both Stewart’s Melville and Scotland he led from the front, gaining 21 caps for Scotland and 2 for the 1977 British Lions in New Zealand.

Dougie lead a superb Stewart’s Melville 7s team winning both Twickenham and Melrose tournaments. He was also an excellent cricketer and golfer.

We pass on our condolences to all our friends at Stewart’s Melville RFC, Dougie’s wife Doreen and daughters Mandy and Nicola.
