After a great season, Heriot’s Blues 1st XV won Nat 1 on Saturday 23rd April 2022 and are promoted to Tennent’s Premiership. It was a close contest at the top of the table with Gala RFC only 1 point behind as the teams went into their final games of the league. Heriot’s needed 5 points to nail the victory which they managed with a 17 – 48 point win away against Cartha Queens Park.
This is a historic time for the club, Heriot’s are the first club in Scottish Rugby to have a FOSROC Super6 team and a 1st XV in the Tennent’s Premiership League. Read more about this on the Fanzone on SRU website.
When asked about the win, Phil Smith said “An absolutely outstanding and historic day for the whole club. After the recent success of the 2’s we were determined to back up their success, which we are delighted to have done. The whole group has worked hard for almost 10 months and got what they richly deserve.”
Callum Bell, Captain of Blues Men 1st XV said “The atmosphere around the club this year has been incredible. From 2A’s through to the 1s, the boys have worked tirelessly for each other on the pitch and cemented the clubs great reputation off it as well. Despite being written off numerous times, the character from the players and tireless efforts of the coaches ensured we were rightly rewarded with historic title success. It feels great to be the best teams in our respective leagues and I have no doubt this will translate to success to success for our Super6 side as well.”
Overall Heriot’s Blues have had a fantastic season with the 2nd XV also victorious in winning the East Reserve League and then going on to win the East V West play-off final.
