Heriot’s Rugby Super6 Head Coach Andrew Kelly, along with his coaching team of Scott Riddell, Finlay Gillies and Stuart Edwards, have named their squad for the 2022 FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series. The squad features some new faces, including several Heriot’s Blues Men players progressing to Super6, Gregor Tait, the top try scorer in the regular season of the Tennent’s Premiership and some established Super6 players. The new squad maintains the focus on developing domestic talent with 30 of the squad being Scottish Qualified.
Head Coach Andrew Kelly said: “Myself and all the coaches at Heriot’s Super6 are really excited about the group of players we have assembled for the Super6 Sprint Series. We have recruited well from outside the club and have promoted players from within the club. There is a great blend of experience and up and coming talent. We have been pushing this group in training and everyone is now excited to get going with the Sprint competition.”
The FOSROC Super6 is back for its first full season which will be split in to two parts – The Sprint Series and The Championship. The Sprint Series is each of the six teams, playing each other once, then a series of playoffs to determine the final placings. This will be followed by The FOSROC Super6 Championship which will start in August and take on a more traditional home and away format.
The squad has been training together since early January and can’t wait to #GetBackToGoldie in front of a crowd in the first home game on Saturday 16th April 2022. We are delighted to announce Ruairidh Leishman as this season’s Super6 Captain. Ruairidh takes over from club legend Iain Wilson who has been hugely successful and leaves some big boots to fill. Leishman said:
“I am privileged to be given the chance to Captain Heriot’s Rugby for the Sprint Series. I am looking forward to leading the team out on our first fixture at Goldenacre on 16th April.”
“We are excited to get into the FOSROC Super6 Sprint Season and get some competitive games. Training has been going well and the new signings have brought some real experience and quality to the squad.”
The majority of Heriot’s Rugby FOSROC Sprint Series games will be away from home due to ongoing grass repair & preparation work at Goldenacre. We look forward to a more balanced fixture card for the Championship on one of Scotland’s best grass pitches.
