Iain Wilson is no stranger to leading the team at Goldenacre, taking the mantel as Club Captain for Heriot’s Blues Men back in 2019, he then took on the mantel for Heriot’s Rugby, the then Super6 team. The former Howe of Fife back-row has been at Goldenacre for eight years now and has his sights set high for this team as they move towards the FOSROC Sprint Series.
At 34 Iain is a regular at the club and was even named in The Offside Line’s FOSROC Super6 team following a sterling performance in the Championship back in August 2022.
Under the charge of Head Coach, Ben Cairns, Iain has embraced all the challenges of pre-season including Saturday sessions at the likes of F45, Gullane Beach and Glencorse Barracks.
We caught up with Iain ahead of the team announcement next week, to ask him what he thought about his captaincy of Heriot’s Rugby and what he saw as the challenges the team may face going into the Sprint Series. He said “I’m very honoured to be given the captaincy again at Heriot’s. It’s a fantastic club with a lot of history so to see your name on the board is a huge privilege. I’m very much looking forward to getting the season started, we’ve got a great group of players and an excellent coaching team so I’m excited to see what we can achieve this season.”
Ben Cairns said “We are delighted that Addie (Iain Wilson) has agreed to captain us in the forthcoming FOSROC Super Series. Since coming into the Head Coach role, I have been really impressed with the way Addie has gone about his business, he’s shown a real drive to improve and has a massive desire to get Heriot’s Rugby back to winning things at the highest level. He made it clear to me early doors that he was keen to be part of our leadership group and really fits the bill in terms of how I want our leaders to operate as a collective” about Iain’s appointment as skipper.
The Sprint Series kicks off with the first game against Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ at Goldenacre on 8th April 2023, Kick off 5pm. For information about our pre-match lunch visit our website or to order your tickets visit Citizen Ticket
What a great player, who started his career on the wing before being moved to his current position. Keep up the great work Addy.
So proud of you Iain and I know your grandpa Andrew Addie would have been too!
So proud of Iain … all his family are. That did include until a couple of years ago his grandpa…. Andrew Addie …. thus the middle name.
